Hello, nature traveler!

Bonito (MS) is internationally recognized for the management of its water resources, which ensures the clarity of our rivers and the beauty of our caves. Maintaining this level of excellence requires constant investment in conservation and infrastructure.

For this reason, the municipality of Bonito has established the Environmental Conservation Fee (TCA), which will take effect on December 20, 2025.

In this post, we will clarify everything you need to know to plan your trip without surprises!

1. What Is the TCA (Environmental Conservation Fee) and What Is Its Purpose?

The Environmental Conservation Fee (TCA) is a municipal charge created to fund public infrastructure and services that support tourism activity and ensure environmental preservation in public areas of the city.

Unlike the entrance fees for private attractions (which fund operations within private farms and facilities), the TCA is designed to support:

  • Maintenance of Rural Roads: Ensuring safe and accessible routes to the attractions.

  • Solid Waste Management: Improving waste collection and treatment in the city and rural areas.

  • Environmental Monitoring: Protecting springs, rivers, caves, and other public natural areas.

  • Urban Infrastructure: Enhancing sanitation, landscaping, and city maintenance.

2. What Is the Fee Amount and How Will It Be Charged?

A practical summary of how the fee works:

3. An Exclusive Benefit Included in the TCA: Travel Insurance

This is a major advantage of Bonito’s TCA!The fee automatically includes mandatory visitor insurance, valid throughout your entire stay in the city.

The insurance strengthens your structural safety during your time in Bonito. Coverage includes:

As in other destinations that adopt environmental fees, certain categories of visitors are exempt:

  • Children aged 7 and under

  • Bonito residents (with proof of address)

  • Workers and service providers traveling through the municipality

5. Why Is the TCA Important for Bonito’s Sustainability?

The beauty of Bonito is a natural treasure that requires continuous care. Over the years, tourism growth has increased the demand for public services such as waste collection and road maintenance.

The TCA ensures that tourists who directly benefit from this infrastructure contribute to maintaining Bonito as a world-class ecotourism destination. It helps guarantee that future generations will experience the same crystal-clear waters you’re coming to enjoy.
